The Case For Inflatables

by Ciera Brodkin

Why easier setups are leading to more water days

Most People Don’t Need Better Gear. They Need More Chances to Use It.

Let’s be honest — getting on the water usually doesn’t fail because of motivation.

It fails somewhere between “we should go today” and actually leaving the house.

Too much setup. Too much friction. Too many steps before the part you actually want.

And that’s where inflatables quietly changed the game.

The Real Shift Isn’t Performance — It’s Access.

Inflatables didn’t become popular because people wanted “less serious” gear.

They became popular because they removed barriers.

Easy to store

Easy to transport

Easy to grab when the weather looks too good to ignore

That combination changes behavior more than most people realize.

Because when something is easy to bring… you bring it more often.

And when you bring it more often… you end up on the water more often.

Simple as that.

Not All Inflatables Are Built the Same.

There’s still a misconception that inflatables mean compromise.

But modern construction has changed that.

All iROCKER boards — including BLACKFIN 7.0, iROCKER 8.0, and ULTRA™ — are built with welded seam construction, designed to deliver a rigid, stable feel once inflated.

Think:

the solid feel you want on the water

with the flexibility to take it anywhere

It’s not “either/or” anymore.

It’s both.

So What Does That Mean in Real Life?

It means you’re not choosing between:

A board that performs well but stays at home or something portable but limited

You get something that:

1. Feels stable when you’re out there

2. Fits in your car when you’re not

3. And shows up more often because it’s easy to bring along

And that’s really the difference.

The Garage Problem is Real.

Most gear doesn’t fail in performance.

It fails in visibility.

If it lives in a garage, it becomes a planned activity.

If it lives in your car, it becomes a possibility.

And possibility turns into action a lot more often.

More Ease = More Water Days.

Ask anyone who actually uses their gear regularly.

The best days usually don’t start with a plan weeks in advance.

They start with:

it looks too good not to go”

“we’ve got time”

“let’s just bring it and see”

Inflatables fit that reality.

They remove the setup decision so the only question left is simple:

Go… or don’t go.

Not Less Serious — Just More Usable.

The goal for most people isn’t extreme performance every weekend.

It’s consistency.

More weekends outside. More spontaneous paddles. More “we actually went” days instead of “we should’ve gone.”

And that’s where inflatables quietly win — not by being less capable, but by being more accessible.

So what actually changes?

Not the water.

Not the experience.

Just how often you end up there.

Final Thought

The best gear isn’t what looks best on paper.

It’s what actually shows up in your life.
