Once you get your gorgeous new board, there are a few things you want to know and master.

  1. Be Sure to inflate your board correctly. An under- or over-inflated board won’t do you any favors, so learning how to inflate your board (and deflate it for travel or storage) is key to proper paddling. See this video for our tips for how to inflate your board properly.
  2. You’ll want to know the correct way to pop up onto your board. Popping up looks easy enough and with a bit of practice, it is. What’s key is really going for it and keeping your eyes high while keeping your feet firmly in the right place. Here’s Check this out for some getting started tips.
  3. Learn the right way to paddle. Seems obvious but actually, it isn’t. You’ll see that your paddle is angled and scooped. A lot of new stand up paddlers make the mistake of turning the “scoop” backward. This is incorrect. The right way is with the “scoop” (blade) facing forward. Like this:
