Who’s ready to get off the sofa for some SUP fun and a hearty workout? Goodness, it’s been a long season of lockdown, hasn’t it? Let’s just say we’re beyond ready to get back to normal. Around here, normal means iSUP and a bit of SUP adventure. In this post, we’re going to help you plan the ultimate SUP adventure with our tried and true iSUP travel checklist.
Essentials for the Ultimate SUP Adventure
Planning Your Ultimate SUP AdventureBefore you can pack for your ultimate SUP adventure, you’ve first got to figure out where you want to go. Many places are restricting travel due to coronavirus quarantine, so driving somewhere in your own province might make the most sense. If you do want to venture farther, you can find some deeply discounted airfares to all kinds of great SUP spots, like Mexico, Florida and parts of the Caribbean. Check here for airline discount codesthrough September.
Whether you decide to stay close to home or fly somewhere far away, you want to be absolutely certain you pack right and arrive prepared. There’s nothing worse than packing up and venturing out for a SUP adventure only to find out you’ve arrived without your carry strap or your GoPro mount. The best thing you can do to pack right and arrive prepared is to start with a checklist. We’d like to make it easy for you with our tried and true SUP Adventure Checklist. You are welcome!
Essential Items to Pack for Your Next SUP AdventureEveryone has their own idea about what’s necessary for a SUP adventure. Still, we can agree on some things. There are also certain accessories that turn an average day of SUP into an epic day of SUP, so our checklist includes a few bells and whistles to do just that.
Tip: Copy and paste this list into your Notes app so you can run down your packing list for your next SUP outing.
Stand Up Paddle Board — Don’t laugh. You might be surprised how often we hear about someone getting to the water without their board. You also want to give your board a thorough cleaning and equipment check, especially if you’re deflating it for travel. Are your straps secure? Are there any spots needing a patch?
Patch Kit — Speaking of spots needing a patch, you should keep a patch kit in your bag at all times. In fact, it’s not a bad idea to keep a entire spare parts kit in your bag as well for emergency repairs or parts replacement.
Ankle Leash — Your ankle leash is almost as essential as your paddle board. The last thing you want to do is watch your beautiful board float downstream because you forgot your ankle leash. Plus, we’ve released new leashes in some bold new colors. Here it is in teal but it also comes in green, orange, gray, coral and seafoam to match our gorgeous new boards for 2020.
Pump — If you don’t have an Electric SUP Pump, what are you waiting for? Nothing makes SUP more fun than taking the pumping out of the prep. Save time (and your arms) with the 12V Electric SUP Pump. Incidentally, there are some handy tips for inflating and deflating your board in this video. It’s worth checking out while you’re busy with your planning.
Energy Supplies — SUP is a workout, especially in the hot summer sun. Add in rapids, waves or any kind of on-board cardio, and you’re going to need some energizing snacks and drinks. Pack it all in our handy-dandy Cooler Deck Bag or our sleek new Backpack Cooler, which also happens to be a dry bag so that’s a double bonus.
Waterproof Cell Phone Case — If you don’t have one of our dry bags, you’ll need to find a way to protect your valuable mobile phone. We have two awesome solutions: a waterproof cell phone case and this cell phone holder. The cell phone holder has the added advantage of hands-free filming if you don’t have a GoPro, so there’s that.
Bluetooth Speaker by Speaqua — Some people might not think a Bluetooth speaker is a SUP essential. Those people would be wrong. Seriously, though, there’s nothing better than timing your strokes with the rhythm of your favorite songs. Plus, you never know when you might need a bottle opener. Say what? That’s right, this bad boy comes with a built-in bottle opener! It’s also waterproof, dustproof and shockproof, so it can stand up to the rigors of travel.
