Have you ever tried converting your inflatable stand up paddleboard to a kayak? Warm or Colder weather this can be a lot of fun and if really cold you are still out of the water. If you have a kayak buddy who doesn’t SUP, or simply want to try something new with your board, this might be for you.
Our entire team here at iROCKER comes from water backgrounds, and we pretty much love all water sports. We love surfing, boating, kayaking, canoeing and of course, SUP.
Sometimes, whether it’s to play well with someone who doesn’t SUP, or just for something different, we like to convert our boards to kayaks. Confession: we didn’t invent this idea but we did make it great. How? Well, first and foremost, by making it simple to convert an iROCKER stand-up paddleboard to a kayak. And second, by making it fun!
Let’s Talk About the Gear
We created the iROCKER Kayak Bundle with a thick-cushioned neoprene kayak seat that attaches to the deck pad. There’s an additional paddle blade for modifying your iRocker paddle into a kayak paddle.\
There’s also an adjustable kayak seat that lays flat when you’re not in kayak mode. This keeps the seat out of the way when you want to go back to SUP mode.
The gear and rigging work together so that you can quickly and easily go from SUP to kayak and back again in just a few seconds.
Now that you know how simple it is to convert your iROCKER for kayaking, let’s talk about why you’d want to go kayaking from time to time.
Why Kayaking with your iROCKER is So Fun
Just like stand up paddle boarding, kayaking is an addicting water sport. If you love water and SUP, you’re probably going to love kayaking, too. It’s also low-impact, making it a perfect choice if you’re healing from an injury or a rigorous recent work-out.
Kayaking has some other nice benefits as well. For example, sitting on the water gets you just about as close to the underwater creatures as you can get without actually getting in the water.
Another benefit is that it allows you to spend time on the water with your friends or family who might not be comfortable with SUP (yet), or who already have a kayak. If one of your favorite buddies is a kayak junkie, this is a great opportunity to let them show you a thing or two you might not already know. You can return the favor later by teaching them a thing or two about SUP.
And just like SUP, kayaking is a killer core workout. It works the upper body, obviously, but also works the core and legs. Yes, you’re seated, but it takes the strength and coordination of your entire body to balance through a kayak trip.
You can also get more adventurous in kayak mode than you can in stand up paddle mode. This is because, in kayak mode, you can roll through rapids, slip through crevices and slide downfalls. If you’re the adventurous type, you’ll love this aspect.
If you’re worried about the extra gear needed to convert your iROCKER to a kayak, you can stop worrying. Like all of our gear, we built our kayak bundle to make a day on the water fun and affordable. To show you how fast and easy it is to convert your iROCKER to a kayak, we made a video. Enjoy!
